'Being an Israeli pickling is in my blood. In the Middle East, the love for preserved food crosses all cultural and religious boundaries and is shared by Jews and Arabs, Muslim and Christians alike. Walk into any food market and you will be amazed by the variety of pickles and preserves available. Their cool, dark interior is a gastronomic Aladdin’s cave, stuffed to the brim with exotic spices, oils, preserved vegetables, fish and meats' (Preserving, DK 1996)..
After years of eating, cooking and writing, I have developed a unique range of sauces, pickles and preserves under the ‘Oded’s Kitchen’ label – based in CT, but available soon in JHB.
Oded’s Kitchen is the culmination of many years of research and a deep love of ancient techniques. Cooking and food lore are used to produce innovative, vibrant and individual flavours that are designed to add an instant gourmet touch to any meal.
Oded’s Kitchen is much more than a condiment provider – it is an organically growing and creative environment which will teach, amuse and entertain with cooking classes, gastronomic experiences, tours and a range of Jewish style speciality foods. Oded’s Kitchen will continue to develop its publishing projects as well as negotiating the republishing of ‘Preserving’ (English and Afrikaans) in early 2010.
As a company we fully promote the philosophies of the slow food movement; whenever possible we use organically produced, local ingredients and environmentally friendly packaging materials. No artificial preservatives are added and we strive to use the best ingredients around.
